Payout time in Morocco: when card and cash payments reach your account and your bank
Payout time in Morocco explained: when a card or cash payment is credited to your payment account, when it reaches your bank, and how to plan your cash flow.
Payout time in Morocco is not a single number: it is three separate moments. The amount of a card payment or of a cash payment at an agency is credited to your payment account as soon as the payment succeeds, and can be used right away. The payout to your bank is then a separate operation: automatic every night, once a settlement account is configured, or by on-demand transfer, which the beneficiary receives within 24 business hours. This guide explains what starts each of these clocks, how to spot the payout on your bank statement, what refunds change, and how to plan your cash flow around all three.
Payout time in Morocco: three clocks, not one
When a merchant asks "when do I get my money?", they are really asking three questions. ChariPay is a Moroccan payment platform, a PSP operated by Chari Money, a payment institution licensed by Bank Al-Maghrib: your collections first land in a payment account opened in your company's name; the payout to your bank comes afterwards, as a separate operation. Between the customer who pays and the line that shows up on your bank statement, three clocks are running, each with its own trigger.
| Clock | What starts it | What you can do with the money |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Credit to the payment account | A successful payment: a card authenticated with 3-D Secure, or a reference paid in cash at an agency | Spend it right away from the account: transfers, bills, top-ups |
| 2. Automatic nightly payout | A configured settlement account | Find it in your bank account, with a reference on the statement |
| 3. On-demand transfer | You, from the portal, for the amount and at the time you choose | Have the beneficiary — your own bank account or a third party — receive it within 24 business hours |
Only one of these clocks has a published duration: a transfer is received within 24 business hours. The credit to the account follows the successful payment; the nightly payout has no published time of day and no published arrival time at the bank.
The clearest way to get a feel for it is to make a test payment yourself: Start in test mode. Three fields — name, work email, company — then an activation link received by email to choose your password, then the portal, where you create your own test key after re-authenticating; the full key is shown only once. Pay with the test card 4918 9141 0719 5005, CVV 123, any future expiry date, 3-D Secure code 555, then find the payment in the portal and in the export. No real money moves; your business verification (KYB) runs in parallel and only gates the move to production.
Clock 1: the amount credited to your account as soon as the payment succeeds
As soon as a payment succeeds — a card authenticated with 3-D Secure or a reference paid in cash at an agency — the amount is available in your ChariPay payment account and usable right away: transfers, bills, top-ups.
The word that matters is "succeeds." A payment abandoned during authentication or declined by the issuing bank credits nothing: only a payment that goes all the way through enters the balance. That is also why, if you integrate the API, you confirm the order when the webhook arrives, never on the redirect alone: the redirect says the buyer came back, not that the payment is secured.
The second nuance is often misread: "available instantly in the account" does not mean "instant bank transfer." The payout to your bank remains a separate operation — that is what the next two clocks are about. ChariPay is not a bank: your payment account is held by Chari Money. It complements your bank; it does not replace it. For the framework behind the account — RIB, certificate, differences from a bank account — read the guide to the payment account in Morocco; for the offer itself, see the wallet and payouts page.
Collection time for card payments and cash at an agency
Collection time — between the customer's action and the credit to your account — depends on the payment method: for a card, on how long the payment itself takes; for cash, on when your customer walks into an agency.
| Card | Cash at an agency | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the customer pays | On a ChariPay payment page — hosted checkout or a link page — with 3-D Secure | At an agency of the Chari network, with the reference obtained on the page of a single-use link |
| What triggers the credit | The successful payment after authentication | The network's confirmation of the deposit |
| When the amount is available | As soon as the payment succeeds | The instant the deposit is made |
| Where you see it | In the portal, and through the signed payment.succeeded webhook if you integrate the API | The link turns "Paid" and you are notified in the portal; on the server side, GET /v1/payment-links/{reference} |
For cash, the flow is as follows. On the page of a single-use payment link, your customer chooses cash, receives a reference, pays it at an agency of the Chari network, and you are notified as soon as the network confirms the deposit. A checkout session created through the API, a reusable link, a poster or a QR code left permanently at the counter collect by card only. ChariPay is the only payment gateway in Morocco that also collects cash at agencies.
So the "delay" on a cash payment is first and foremost your customer's: until they have made the deposit, nothing is credited; as soon as the network confirms it, the amount is available in the account and can be used right away. The full mechanics are covered in the guide to collecting cash at an agency.
Clock 2: the automatic nightly payout to your bank
The payout to your bank is a separate operation: automatic every night once a settlement account is configured, or by transfer on demand, for the amount and at the time you choose. Each payout carries a reference that appears on your bank statement.
The settlement account is your company's bank account, the one that receives the automatic payout. Once it is configured, the payout goes out every night without you having to trigger it; as long as no settlement account is configured, no automatic payout leaves. Check the account details against a document issued by your bank rather than a forwarded message.
We do not publish the time of day the payout leaves, how long it takes to reach your bank account, or a minimum amount, and we describe no rule on what the payout leaves in the payment account. What counts is what you can see: the payout movement in the portal, with its reference, and the same reference on your bank statement.
In practice, the nightly payout funds your bank account for what is paid from there: the payments debited from that account and the ones you keep making from your bank.
Clock 3: the on-demand transfer, received within 24 business hours
When you do not want to wait for the night — a due date tomorrow, a specific amount to move to your bank — the on-demand transfer takes over. From the portal, you send transfers to any Moroccan RIB: the fixed transfer fee is shown before you confirm, the amount is debited immediately and the beneficiary receives it within 24 business hours; an executed transfer cannot be canceled.
Three things to know before you rely on it:
- 1Count in business hours, not clock hours. The receiving time is expressed in business hours, while your balance is debited immediately: leave some margin before a due date.
- 2Your own bank account is a beneficiary like any other. Register it ahead of time: a security delay applies after adding a new beneficiary.
- 3Approval by code is required. Every transfer sent from the portal is validated by a six-digit one-time code, emailed to each validation address designated in Settings → Security — up to five addresses, each belonging to a team member authorized to make transfers; you set the number of approvers required. Until an address is configured, no transfer can be sent. The approvers therefore need to be reachable on the due date.
The step-by-step walkthrough — adding the beneficiary, the fee quote, codes, statuses — is in the guide to transfers from your payment account.
Spotting the payout on your bank statement
On your bank statement, a ChariPay payout is not an anonymous amount: each payout carries a reference that appears there. On the payment account side, every account movement carries the reference of the sale, refund or payout that explains it; the portal separates amount paid, fees and net, and the CSV export keeps those references — from the portal or with GET /v1/transactions/export.csv (up to 10,000 rows; beyond that, split by period with from/to).
Two reflexes are enough to read a payout: start from its reference, never from the amount alone, and convert times before you total a day. Timestamps are in UTC; Morocco is UTC+1: your reconciliation tool must convert. A payment made at 12:30 a.m. Moroccan time shows up at 11:30 p.m. the previous day in the export. The complete method is in the guide to reconciling your collections.
What refunds change in the next payout
You can refund a customer, in full or partially, from the portal or through the API. Refunds are free; the amount is deducted from your available balance, and if the balance is not enough, the operation is blocked rather than creating an overdraft.
For reading your payouts, this has two consequences:
- A refund can reduce the next payout without a separate line on the bank statement: nothing on the bank side flags it.
- The explanation is in the export: each refund appears there as a separate movement linked to the original transaction. So start from the payout reference, then read the movements in the export.
On the customer's side, a refund is not instantaneous on the bank side: let them know. And before a large refund, check that your available balance covers its amount: otherwise, the operation is blocked.
Planning your cash flow with the three clocks
Once the three clocks are told apart, cash management becomes a series of simple decisions.
| Your need | The clock to use |
|---|---|
| Pay a supplier, settle a bill with the listed billers, top up telecom lines through the API | The first: pay from the account, the money is already there |
| Fund your bank account for the payments debited from it | The second: the automatic nightly payout |
| Move a specific amount to your bank before a due date | The third: an on-demand transfer, counting in business hours |
| Prepare a large refund | None: first check that the available balance covers the amount |
To get cash, pay out to your bank account — automatically every night or on demand — and withdraw there, as usual. From the payment account, the money works through transfers to a RIB, bill payments and telecom top-ups through the API. At ChariPay, cash flows the other way: your customers can pay you in cash at an agency.
The full cycle — collect, pay from the account, keep a margin during the day, let the nightly payout go — is described in the guide to paying suppliers from your collections.
Frequently asked questions
What is the payout time for a card payment to my bank?
There are two stages. The amount is available in your payment account as soon as the card payment succeeds. The payout to your bank is then a separate operation: automatic every night, once a settlement account is configured, or by on-demand transfer, received within 24 business hours. We do not publish an arrival time for the nightly payout: its reference on your bank statement is what counts.
Is a cash payment at an agency available as quickly as a card payment?
Yes, once the deposit is made: the amount is available in the account the instant the deposit is made, and the link turns "Paid" with a notification in the portal. The difference lies in when your customer goes to the agency: until they have paid their reference at an agency of the Chari network, nothing is credited. Among payment links, only the single-use link offers cash.
Where do I configure the settlement account that receives the automatic payout?
The settlement account is your company's bank account, the one the automatic payout is sent to. We do not describe here where it is configured: ask the ChariPay team, and take its details from a document issued by your bank. As long as no settlement account is configured, no automatic payout leaves; after that, each payout carries a reference that appears on your bank statement.
Is the automatic nightly payout mandatory?
It starts as soon as a settlement account is configured: that setting is what switches it on, and there is nothing for you to trigger each evening. Alongside it, the on-demand transfer lets you pay out the amount of your choice, at the time of your choice. If your organization has a particular constraint, raise it with the team before going live.
Can I pay out to my bank without waiting for the night?
Yes, through an on-demand transfer from the portal, for the amount and at the time you choose. The fixed fee is shown before you confirm, your balance is debited immediately, and the beneficiary — here, your own bank account — receives the money within 24 business hours. Register your bank account as a beneficiary in advance: a security delay applies after adding a new beneficiary.
Does a refund reduce my next payout?
It can. The amount of a refund is deducted from your available balance, and it can reduce the next payout without appearing as a separate line on your bank statement. In the export, it remains a separate movement linked to the original transaction: that is where it shows up. If the balance is not enough, the refund is blocked rather than creating an overdraft.
Is money available in the account the same as an instant transfer?
No. "Available instantly in the account" means the amount of a successful payment can be used right away from your payment account: transfers, bills, top-ups. It is not an instant bank transfer: the payout to your bank remains a separate operation, automatic every night or on demand, and a transfer is received by the beneficiary within 24 business hours.
How can I get cash from my collections?
Pay out to your bank account — automatically every night or on demand — and withdraw there, as usual. From the payment account, the money works through transfers to a RIB, bill payments and telecom top-ups through the API. At ChariPay, cash flows the other way: your customers can pay you in cash at an agency.
Next step
Open your test account — Start in test mode — pay with the test card, then find the payment in the portal and in the export, with no real money. Then gather the details of the settlement account that will receive the automatic payout in production, and keep the wallet and payouts page at hand for an overview of everything the account can do.
